A workshop to this effect ended in Yaounde on July 18.

Central and external personnel of the Ministry of Basic Education have examined a draft document in a bid to validate a Pedagogic Supervision Manuel for the sector which will improve the quality of education and teaching through innovative practices in a workshop that ended yesterday July 18 in Yaounde. During the opening of the workshop on July 17, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Basic Education, Armand Ndjodom said the new vision of pedagogic supervision will help various actors in the chain for pedagogic supervision to be more performant. The workshop aimed at scrutinising a draft manual on the procedure of carrying out pedagogic supervision in schools.

The Inspector of Pedagogy in charge of Education Technologies at the Ministry of Basic Education, Michael Nkwenti said for over 10 years, there is no procedural manner to guide the supervision of pedagogy in schools. Because the world is evolving with new demands and challenges emerging each day, Michael Nkwenti stressed that there was need for the ministry to ensure that the educational system meets the quality that the new society demands. The new Pedagogic Supervision Manuel will help guide the supervisory chain from the central desk to the Sub-divisional level.

Facilitators at the workshop said before now, when teachers learnt about the visit of a pedagogic inspector to schools, everybody was panicking because they felt the inspector could be bias. But the new Pedagogic Supervision Manuel will move the education system from the concept of an inspector to that of a supervisor and a guide. According to Michael Nkwenti, a guide is someone who will help teachers on their daily activities successfully. The document will help Cameroon in achieving its vision of becoming an emerging nation by 2035 through a better quality of education as indicated in the Pedagogic Supervision Manuel.
