Three other victims are receiving treatment, after a collision between two transport vans.

Once again the Douala-Yaounde Highway struck another cord in its death toll by claiming one life after a head-on collision between two transport vans, a few kilometres from Edea (coming from Yaounde).

According to Gendarmerie officials who rushed to the scene, first-hand information from the local population holds that the infamous event occurred about 8 am on September 9, 2013. Though the cause of the accident was still unknown at press time, speculations centred on high speeding and wrong over-taking by either one or both vans.

What used to be a vehicle, now wrecked into pieces, whole bunches, stems and crushed plantain pieces, coloured with blood on one side; printed copies of the National Bilingual Daily, Cameroon Tribune, amidst other documents, marred with raindrops were lying on the other end of the road, rampaged by the overturned car.

Such was the site that welcomed travellers along the inter-urban road yesterday morning. While the plantain-filled van was heading towards Yaounde, the other van belonging to the Express Mail Service (Esico) was transporting mails... which might not reach their various destinations.
