Eric Ngwane, a three star Police Inspector working with the Judicial Department in Buea was found dead Monday, October 20, in his home at the Bakweri Town neighbourhood in Buea.
It is believed that he died at about 4:00am in the sitting room of his three bedroom apartment. His body was discovered at about 12:00 noon by a taxi driver.
According to family sources, he was found lying in the pool of his own blood, with a wound on his head. It is unclear as to whether the wound on his head was inflicted by a machete (knife) or by a bullet.
Those who saw his lifeless body say his gun was lying beside him along with a bullet on the floor. It is unclear if the bullet had been used, as police investigations and medical examinations are still ongoing.
Samuel Ebong Mbome, a cousin to Eric Ngwane told Cameroon Journal that he was with his brother the night before his death.
“I was with Eric Ngwane yesterday Sunday. He was the one who hosted our clan meeting (he hails from Ndum village in Tombel). But he had been complaining that he was not feeling fine. He said he had typhoid and malaria. Yesterday, I left his house at about 9pm. A driver managing one of his taxis was calling him today to tell him that the vehicle had a problem but he would not pick his call. The driver came to Ngwane’s house and met him lying in a pool of his own blood. He called the neighbours.”
The cousin of late Eric added that “His (Ngwane’s) gun was lying beside him with a cartridge. It’s quite a tragic incident. We don’t know. There’s a wound in his head. Neighbours say thieves attacked the area early this morning. May be the thieves after operating in his neighbour’s house then moved to his (Ngwane) own house. The door was closed, but not locked.”
Samuel Ebong also told Cameroon Journal that Eric Ngwane was not married and has no child. Upon his death, he was serving as bodyguard to the President of the Fako High Court.
His body has been conveyed to the Buea regional hospital Mortuary by local administrative, judicial and security officials for an autopsy.
