Preparations For Ninth Legislative Period Underway

Preparations are heating up at the National Assembly in readiness for the ninth legislative period of the Lower House of Parliament that will be ushered by the election of the 180 Members of the National Assembly in the September 30,

2013 twin legislative and municipal elections. Seven sub-committees are at work to ensure a hitch-free start of the legislative period that will certainly start towards the end of October 2013 when the MPs to be elected in the September 30 polls will hold their statutory session.

The Assistant Secretary General of the National Assembly, Abdoulaye Daouda on behalf of the Secretary General on August 16, 2013 chaired a coordination meeting of the House during which the sub-committees were put in place. He called on the staff of the National Assembly to take the opportunity of the transitional period between the eighth and ninth legislative periods of the House to prepare well as immediately after the statutory session of the new MPs, the November 2013 ordinary session devoted essentially to voting the 2014 State budget will start. Abdoulaye Daouda stressed on the need to take all the necessary measures and to anticipate to ensure a successful start of the legislative period.

The sub-committees working on the effective start and success of the ninth legislative period of the National Assembly, include those on administration, documentation and communication, lodging, transportation and protocol, maintenance, finance, logistics and the sub-committee in charge of organizing open door days.
