Cameroon's Head of State, Paul Biya, yesterday, December 22, 2013 presided at the 54th edition of the National Football Cup of Cameroon between Canon Sportive of Yaounde and Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda. The cup final also served as the end of the 2013 sports season in the country, justifying the total celebration and communion at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium.

Two major innovations marked the celebration of the end of sports season in the country. The first was the presence of the President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji, the second personality of the State considering the effective take off of the Senate following the April 14, 2013 election. Secondly, the Yong Sport Academy of Bamenda that won the trophy scoring four goals against two for Canon Sportive of Yaounde in penalty shoot outs, participated at the football cup finals for the first time. Canon Sportive of Yaounde was at their 17th cup final.

The presidents of the different sports federations anxiously waited for the event to commune with the Head of State, Paul Biya. That is why after his arrival at the Stadium and the military honours, the presidents of the federations happily shook hands with him. The entire sports public joined the different federations to sing and shower praises to the Head of State as he chaired the sports festival.

The sports family also paid tribute to the Head of State in banners they carried as they marched past. The euphoria of the sporting family further heightened at the end of the football encounter. This was obviously another high point as the Head of State handed trophies to teams that won in the different federations.
