Prez Jonathan Commissions N30.93 Bn SE-Cameroon Link Road

President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the 240km Enugu-Abakaliki-Ogoja Junction-Ikom-Mfum road, which ends at Nigeria's border with neighbouring Republic of Cameroon on Tuesday, 3rd March 2015.

The project which was assisted by World Bank and African Development Bank (ADB) cost N30.93 billion.

While commissioning the project in Enugu, Jonathan who was represented by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, said the road would help to improve trade relations between Nigeria and Cameroon.

The president explained that the construction of the road was in line with the transformation agenda of his administration in the road sector.

According to him, the road would also promote veritable economic corridor between the two countries."This is part of my administration's commitment toward making life easy for the people," Jonathan said.

Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State remarked that, the completion of the road was a landmark achievement which would bring economic development to the South East.

Chime, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Goddy Madueke, said the completion of the road would help improve food transportation to various communities, villages, local government areas and states.

"This is an historic event in Enugu State, we have constructed over 700km of roads in the urban and rural areas. We believe in the Federal Government's transformation agenda especially infrastructure. We will continue to support the Federal Government in its development strides," Chime said.

Also, in his address, the Minister of State for Works, Prince Adebayo Adeyeye, said the 240km road which was flagged off in 2010 cost an amount of N30.93 billion.

Some residents of the state who spoke in an interview applauded the Federal government for the completion of the road.
