Prison Administrators and top government officials of the judiciary are meeting in Yaounde for the 8th annual conference.

The meeting which began this 16th November has been organised to discuss the on-going reforms in the penitentiary.

Top on the agenda for discussions are ways of improving on conditions of detentionwithin prisons in the country.

Few years after the implementation of the reforms, participants shall be reflecting on ways of decongesting the overcrowded prisons in some urban areas and to agree on renovation projects aimed at revamping the many dilapidated facilities in the country.

Another issue for discussion is the present state of insecurity and frequent evasions registered recently within the prisons.

Participants shall be exploring ways of curbing the smuggling of illegal objects including fire arms and other outlawed substances within the prison.

This phenomenon, experts agree, is gaining grounds due to the disproportionate numbers of prison guards in relation to the number of inmates.
