Soft-spoken and intellectually alert, Prof. Bouba Oumarou is one of Cameroon's university dons whose professional rise since 1993 has been remarkable. Born in 1958 in Garoua in the North Region, he obtained his Baccalaureat in Lycée Classique, Garoua in 1977 as the best student of the Garoua Examination Centre.

He was admitted to the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Orleans in France where he obtained his postgraduate DEA diploma in 1977 as best student in Physics. After defending his PhD thesis, he returned to Cameroon in 1993 where he held several teaching and senior administrative positions in the University of Ngaoundere and attained the academic rank of Associate Professor in 1998. He became Vice Rector of the university in 2002 and held this position till the presidential decree of 29th December 2008 appointed him Rector of the University of Yaounde 1.

Four years later, another presidential decree of June 29th 2012 put him at the helm of the University of Yaounde II at Soa. A task he looks forward to with expectation. "I was very happy when I received the news of my appointment. I use this opportunity to thank the Head of State for the renewed confidence as I promise to use my management skills to carry out my work. With the experience acquired at the University of Yaounde 1, I want to assure my future collaborators, support staff and students that we will form a good team so that the University of Yaounde II continues to blossom."
