Clement Fon Ndikum, Secretary General at the South West Governor’s Office has said that those who wish to work in the Civil Service may soon be required to take military training.

The South West scribe was speaking in Buea on Wednesday, July 2, at the end of a two-day meeting of the regional commission in charge of establishing the list of candidates for selection of the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development, NCSAPD.

The meeting co-chaired by Esua Enow, Deputy General Manager of the NCSAPD and the South West scribe ended with the selection of 600 youth volunteers and 400 others to be trained as conscripts.

After the selection process, Fon Ndikum said it is very necessary for youths to be trained as conscripts, stating that it may soon be a requirement for recruitment into the public service.

In his own word he said that “…It is ideal to inculcate in the youth a sense of patriotism. I sense of belonging to the fatherland and the willingness to die for the nation…It may soon become a requirement for those who want to enter the public service to be trained as conscripts under the NCSAPD.”

According to Esua Enow, the 600 volunteers selected from the 31 subdivisions of the South West will be trained for six months. The volunteers, he said, will be made up of Cameroon youth of both sexes in a quest to give them knowledge in vocational training or income generating activities.

Also, 400 youth between the ages of 17 and 21 will be trained for two months at the Mutengene Police College to become conscripts.

“We’ll inculcate in them civic values and responsible behaviors; train them in sporting, physical and cultural education; consolidate solidarity and national integration to ensure training on civil protection and first aid and sensitize them on environmental protection,” the Agency’s Deputy General Manager said.

The conscripts, he said, will be trained by staff from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Military and security personnel and some role models in the society.

Daniel Agbor Enaw, NCSAPD Regional coordinator for the South West promised that all has been put in place to ensure a hitch-free kick-off of the training. The training begins on July 13.
