November 8th marks a year since the signing of the convention between the Government of Cameroon, electricity of France (EDF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) for the construction of the hydro-electric dam at Nachtigal to produce a capacity of 420 MW on the Sanaga River in the central region.

Since then, the various partners involved in the implementation of this project work have been working in the back-office to ensure the commencement of work on the site.

Indeed, after recruiting a panel of environmental experts, procedures have been taken to select the company to take charge of carrying out earthworks and topography. A pre-qualification call has just been launched for this purpose. It targets (included groupings) companies in topography and excavation.

After the call for pre-qualification, it must yield benefits over a period of three months, beginning from 1 December on the site of the project. The said benefits include obtaining the authorizations of access and regulation from owners of the crops damaged in the process, the opening of distance on a 10km along the canal plant.

It has also seen opening tracks and trenches of reconnaissance work; implementation of recognition points and works on a linear of about 5 km and a surface of approximately three hectares and the plan in generaldetails of all the points where work will be carried out.

Companies wishing to bid must file their applications before October 28 at EDF Cameroon headquarters in Yaounde.
