The Regional Organising Committee Chairman for celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of Cameroon's reunification celebrations scheduled in Buea, Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, has announced that projects earmarked within the framework of the event are advancing progressively.

He was speaking in the conference hall of his office during an exchange with pressmen from the public and private media on Wednesday. The press briefing which would come up every forth night according to the Regional Delegate of Communication, Enow Chris Oben, falls within the framework of government's communication strategy.

As far as infrastructure is concern, the Governor noted that the renovation works of the two state owned hotels (Mountain hotel and Parliamentarian Flat) stands at 95 and 80-90 per cents respectively. He explained that outlet roads like the Buea-Sasse-Mile Four road are in its advanced state with about 90 percent of the work completed while the 7 km Afosi (Buea Town)-Muea stretch has also taken off. Information gathered at the site shows that 30 per cent of the work has so far been done on the road. Two other road projects out of town, Mpundo (Muyuka) to Mondoni in Tiko sub division and Afosi-Ekona are also on course. The roads are intended to ease circulation and de-congest the town of Buea, the Governor intimated.

The construction of the new grandstand, the renovation of the two Presidential residences, is also nearing completion. Meanwhile, most public buildings are being painted and other renovation works to give the structures facelifts. Governor Bilai revealed that many people have submitted proposals declaring their wish to lodge thousands of guests expected in Buea. He announced that the protracted water crisis that bedevilled Buea is now a thing of the past.

The Governor called on all those involved in the execution of projects to scrupulously respect deadlines and stay within set objectives.
