The risk of famine is more obvious in the region of the far north of Cameroon, because of insecurity maintained by the Nigerian terrorist sect Boko Haram.

This observation was made during the pastoral mini-Committee currently unfolding in Maroua, which mentioned a cereal deficit of more than 100 thousand tonnes.

This food deficit leads to a shortfall of 30 billion CFA francs, said officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, adding that nearly two million people are thus exposed to famine.

Indeed, the producers have abandoned their plantations because of attacks by the Islamist sect, including a capricious rainfall which did not permit an abundant production.

The far north of Cameroon which is located in a zone is characterized by agriculture including millet, sorghum and rice cereal.
