SDF Concludes Primaries Today

The leading opposition party, the Social Democratic Front, SDF, is almost ready for the September 30, 2013 twin legislative and municipal council elections. Primaries for both elections in all the Regions of Cameroon will wrap up today, July 8, 2013, the SDF National Secretary for Communication, Beatrice Annembom told Cameroon Tribune. She said the primaries for legislative election will drop curtains in Momo, Mezam and Boyo Divisions of the North West Region, today, July 8.

Members of the National Executive Committee, NEC of the SDF, she said, will meet on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 to evaluate the conduct of the primaries after which the candidature files will be forwarded to the National Investiture Committee for the final endorsement of candidatures whose nomination papers would be submitted to the elections body, Elections Cameroon, ELECAM. In accordance with the Electoral Code, political parties to participate in the two elections have 15 days from the day electors were called to the polls to submit nomination papers of their parties.

From every indication, the deadline for submitting the nomination papers will be July 17, 2013. The SDF National Secretary for Communication disclosed that by the end of this week, the nomination papers for the party's candidates will be ready. According to Beatrice Annembom, the atmosphere under which the primaries for legislative and municipal council elections are being conducted has been tense but with no major incident.
