Supporters of the leading opposition party, the SDF (Social Democratic Front), started their campaign launch in Buea with promises to usher in great development projects that will transform Cameroon.
During the launch in Muea (Buea) on September 16, the supporters said some of the projects that Buea currently enjoys, are the fruits of achievements realised in the 1990s when the SDF was at the helm of the Buea Council. Such projects, the SDF supporters echoed, range from the construction of the old Great Soppo Market, the Slaughter House, road maintenance and pipe borne water to the local communities.
Ekeke Njuma Moses, substantive candidate in the legislative election for Buea Urban, regretted that Cameroonians are treated with discontent in their own country. "The SDF does not want division in our own country. Any Cameroonian should settle anywhere in the country and feel at ease," he told his party comrades who reacted with thunderous applause. He said if elected, he would hold rallies with grassroots militants and seek their opinion on what transpires in Parliament.
The South West Regional Chairman of the SDF, Likiye George Ngeke and other speakers who took to the rostrum afterwards, promised participatory development and reminded potential voters to be vigilant and not to be derailed by detractors. He told the militants that if they take over the Buea Council, all the SDF abandoned projects will be reinstated.
