SDF gets permanent secretariat

Preparations ahead of the 25th anniversary of the birth of the leading opposition Party in Cameroon, the Social Democratic Front, SDF of Ni John Fru Ndi was the focal point of the last National Executive Council NEC meeting held in Bamenda

Senators, members of parliament, Mayors and Councilors, Shadow Cabinet Ministers as well as other NEC members gathered around the party chairman to re-examine the party's 25 years history and projections. The special committee charged with preparing the anniversary, coming up on May 26, 2015, presented a report on the acquisition of land for the construction of the SDF Secretariat in view of the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

The Party's National Executive Committee also discussed salient issues affecting the welfare of the nation particularly the terrorist threats from the Islamic sect, Boko Haram. Party authorities questioned what Boko Haram really wants in Cameroon when the group claims to be fighting Western Education in Nigeria. NEC then resolved to dispatch a delegation to meet Nigerian authorities and discuss ways of checking the jihadists.

Relating to the Ebola outbreak, NEC congratulated the Cameroon government through the Minister of Health and Cameroonians in general for measures taken to contained the virus from entering Cameroon. The party's chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi was emphatic that the threats from Boko Haram, the Ebola Virus, Cholera and the general economic malaise required a special resolution from the SDF. The chairman was adamant that it will be irresponsible for the SDF to give a deaf ear to the horrors posed by Boko Haram and the Ebola Virus in Africa.

The decision to acquire a piece of land and build the party's permanent secretariat before the celebrations marking the party's Silver Jubilee received a thunderous applause from members in attendance.

It should be recalled that one of the reasons that caused the former Secretary General of the party, Elisabeth Tamanjong, to resign was the inability of the party to build a permanent secretariat, since she assumed duties; she has been using her residence to discharge her functions. The meeting also unveiled some reports on human rights information on the hosting of the Common Wealth Parliamentary Association of Cameroon and a report on the recent U.S Africa heads of State Summit in Washington D C.
