A nationwide campaign to revamp wards is underway with Mfoundi Division setting the pace.

Cameroon’s frontline opposition political party, the Social Democratic Front (SDF) is bent on turning the tides in future elections. The party is thus on the offensive in scouting for new wards and revamping old ones in order not to be caught off-guard when need arises. This explains the current wave of reorganisation of the grassroots organs of the party with Mfoundi Division in the Centre Region setting the pace. So far, over four electoral districts in the Division have been given new impulse in the process.

Wednesday July 22, 2015, was the turn of Yaounde VI Electoral District, as members, supporters and sympathisers of the party massively converged on the party house in Etoug-Ebe Yaounde in their coordination conference that also witnessed the putting in place of an executive committee that will coordinate the reorganisation activities in the 41 wards.

The coordination conference was supervised by the National Commission dispatched by the Chairman of the party. According to the Head of the Commission, Hon. Paul Nji Tumasang, the exercise which kicked off in Santa electoral district in the North West Region last year, is aimed at preparing for up-coming council, senatorial and presidential elections.

“We want to get ourselves organised in such a way that by the time we confront elections in 2018, we are well organised and we go into the electoral competition prepared to win”, Hon Tumasang stated.

The new coordination unit, he said, is expected to create more wards and organise elections in the wards. He urged that dedicated militants who will spur action at the level of the wards should be elected to head the wards. The exercise to give a new impetus to the basic organs of the SDF party is expected to move to other parts of the country.
