SDF takes fight against Boko Haram to Nigeria

The National Executive Committee NEC, of the Social Democratic Front, SDF, has resolved, amongst other things, to send a Parliamentary delegation to Nigeria to carry out investigations on the dangerous Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

The executive members took the resolution in Bamenda over the weekend, during the NEC General Assembly.

In his opening remarks, the SDF National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, said that what has preoccupied the party has been the havoc caused by Boko Haram in the North of Cameroon and, for that reason, the party will go any length to investigate the group because it would appear that the Boko Haram of Nigeria is different from that operating in the north of Cameroon.

The SDF National Executive regretted that the Government is not doing enough in fighting the terrorist group.

“Why is Government sending conflicting information on this issue? How comes Cameroon Ministers go negotiating with people they claim are faceless and for what fee?" Fru Ndi quipped. He said Cameroonians are complaining that the fight against the terrorists, cholera in the North and now the Ebola scare has exposed Government’s limitations.

"When fuel prices were increased, journalists and many people tickled me to react and I told them I will react when appropriate and, as you know, we are swinging into action on all these to save Cameroonians who have resigned to fate, because they are helpless. It is not once, not twice that I sounded a warning to the authorities that there are dark clouds hovering over Cameroon."

Briefing the press, the SDF Communication Boss, Beatrice Anembom Munjo, said the Boko Haram issue, which touches on the security of this country has pricked the party to programme a parliamentary group to travel to Nigeria any moment from now to carry out a thorough investigation on Boko Haram. She called on all Cameroonians who have the least information on Boko Haram to furnish the party and forces of law and order with it.

On the increase in fuel prices, the SDF’s investigation that largely relied on a two-page document presented at NEC by Hon Evarist Foupossi Fotso, Shadow Cabinet Minister in charge of Economy and Finance, describes such an increase as; economically unjustifiable and socially unacceptable.

"The SDF strongly condemns such a demagogic scheming whose main goal is to succumb to international donors’ orders, while saddling the people with the adverse consequences of the negligence and mismanagement of the CPDM regime.

As concerns the presidential decree readjusting salaries with a five percent increase, the SDF said the measure was illegal because it was not included in the current budget, and it never passed through P Parliament. The document argues that the so called salary increase is economically counter-productive, socially provocative and insulting.

SDF recommends that, to avert social unrest, the Government should reason and suspend the increase in fuel prices. It should also build sincere talks with all political and social forces in the country, in view of reaching a republican consensus which is the only way out to set the country on the path of democracy and progress.

Following a report presented at NEC by the Northwest Regional Chairman of the SDF, Hon. Evaristus Njong, the SDF District Chairman of Bafmen in Wum, Rex Che Ngong, who allegedly beat up Hon. Larry Hills Ndong during a village meeting, was slammed Article 8.2; dismissing him from the party. The SDF Communication Boss, Anembom, said NEC described the act as barbaric on an elected gentleman representing Wum people in Parliament.

The Tubah Electoral District executive was dissolved and the date for elections to reorganise that District is yet to be announced.
