A delegation from the Central Committee (CC) of the ruling CPDM party has joined forces with militant Mayors, Section Presidents, traditional rulers, Senators, MPs and other fervent militants in the South West Region to support the Head of State, President Paul Biya, in waging a must-win war against the threatening but nebulous Boko Haram sect.
Senator Peter Mafany Musonge led the delegation of five on 14 June, 2014, with Enanga Kebbi as Chargé de Mission. Other members delivered applauded lectures on the role of Mayors vis à vis the party. As such, Minister Victor Mengot Arrey Nkongho spoke on the "Responsibilities of CPDM Mayors Today", Professor Elvis Ngolle Ngolle articulated on "CPDM Mayors and Making the Party Shine", meanwhile Senator Musonge addressed the full Buea CNPS-hall audience on security concerns of the moment.
In his introductory statement, Senator Mafany underscored that it was the first time the party was bringing Mayors together following an election. To Peter Mafany, another illustration of the historical character of the Buea meeting was the application of article 59(2) (c) of the Party basic texts establishing CPDM Council Groups. He insisted that electoral promises by mayors must be kept for the interest of the population. The meeting appeared timely for a Region where the CPDM totals 29 of its 31 Mayors.
Tabling the major worry of the day, Senator Mafany unleashed that Cameroon was under multi-facetted border insecurity. "Indeed, between incursions of rebels from Central African Republic at the border and terrorist attacks coupled with hostage taking by the Boko Haram sect of Nigeria in the Far North Region" he said, adding that because of these "Cameroon is in a tight corner caught between the devil and the deep sea, between the hammer and the anvil. Peace is threatened and stability is in danger," the Senator went on sternly.
He however rejoiced that the defence forces under President Paul Biya's visionary leadership are responding appropriately. He reminded that what is needed now is the application of the strategy of popular defence. This is why the delegation was in Buea to solicit popular support to avert such threats. And so the Buea meeting rounded off with a motion of support to President Paul Biya and the resolution to contribute to the war against insecurity.
