The Southwest Elite Association, SWELA, has proposed to President Paul Biya its candidate for possible appointment to the position of Kumba City Council, KCC, Government Delegate to replace Victor Nkelle Ngoh.
SWELA, in a motion of support, a copy which The Post stumbled on, is proposing Daniel Nasako Molondo, a senior support staff at the Southwest Governor's Office, as a candidate for the position in case of any appointment.
Nasako is Deputy SWELA Scribe in charge of Meme Division. He recently headed a delegation to the Meme Senior Divisional Officer, SDO, to forward a motion of support, urging Biya to seek re-election in 2018.
In making its proposal, the writers of the motion of support claim that the KCC is currently mired in conflicts and poor management and needs a replacement in case of new appointments of Government Delegates to City Councils.
The motion of support bearing over 15 signatures of persons purported to be representing communities, Civil Society Organisations and other unions state, in categorical terms, that Biya should consider Nasako as the best proposal to govern the KCC.
“Equally, considering the poor management of the KCC which is plagued with numerous conflicts, we the undersigned representatives of the nine communities and Civil Society Organisations cited above, want to use to this forum to propose to H.E President Paul Biya 'Prince Nasako Daniel Molondo' as candidate for the post of Government Delegate to the Kumba City Council during the next appointments,” states the motion of support.
The signatories to the motion of support include Daniel Nasako Molondo; Peter Agbor - Branch Secretary; QueenEkoko – Treasurer; Mekumba Nakeli - Technical Adviser, Debora Epie- Auditor.
In the category of those who signed on behalf of communities are: Michael Eseme for the Ngolo Community; Adolf Kombe for the Barombi Community; Wilson Ekole Ekong for the Bakundus; Isaac Makia for the Bafaws; Sylvester Nifondo for the Balong people; while Regina Lukong Berka signed on behalf of the Northwest Community. For the Bamilekes, Bassa and Moslem communities, they are Paul Allain Ndimis, Pius Kamini and Sulleman, respectively.
Other signatories standing in for Vision Farmer Group, Transporters Union, Taxi Drivers and Bike Riders Union also appear as signatories of the motion of support.
According to the motion, Biya has sacrificed his life, time and huge financial resources to tackle Boko Haram and security crisis, while at the same time striving to ensure the execution of lofty projects in the country. In this light, they call on the President of the Republic to seek re-election in the forthcoming election.
The controversial motion of support, which has already sparked confusion within Kumba, has seen some of those whose names appear, disowning their signatures. Others claim that they were never consulted in the drafting of the motion of support.
Such motions in Kumba are always problematic. In 2015, CPDM militants came close to exchanging blows over a motion of support to Biya at the creation of HTTTC Kumba.
Recently, a motion of support rally staged at the KCC Grandstand ended up increasing the political problems of Meme Division.
Some observers have described the drafters of the motion of support as being selfish. They claim that SWELA ought to canvass for the interest of the Region and not demand the replacement of another Southwest elite entrusted with a public office.
