Samuel Eto’o on a peacekeeping mission in the vatican

The former Indomitable Lions captain, Samuel Eto’o Fils was guest at the Vatican on Monday 1st September 2014.

The Everton Striker who just retired from international football was at the Vatican at the invitation of Pope Francis to attend an interreligious match for peace at the Paul VI hall in the Vatican.

Samuel Eto’o was accompanied by his Ivorien girlfriend Georgette; the both met the Pope for a special audience before the match.

The invitation was the Roman Catholic Church’s effort to promote peace in the world, especially in crisis countries like in Syria, Gaza, Pakistan amongst others.

During the event, current and former soccer stars and coaches like Arsene Wenger, Gerardo Tata, representing different religious backgrounds participated in a match for Peace in the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

Funds raised during the encounter were donated to a Humaitarian Association from Buenos Aires, the Un’Alternativa di vita’ that takes care of destitude children
