Senate prez reviews status of senators

Senate President, Marcel Niat Njifenji, last Friday September 26, 2014, met with Bureau members of the House in an ordinary meeting to evaluate parliamentary activities.

Prominent in the discussions was the need to harmonise payments with members of the National Assembly. Niat Njifenji, after revealing this to the press, added that they also sought to review the status of Senators.

Coming just before the 60th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, CPC, holding in Yaounde from October 2 to 10 under the patronage of President Paul Biya, who is also Vice Patron of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, CPA, with theme: “Repositioning the Commonwealth for the post-2015 development agenda,” Senate President hailed Senators who are actively involved in the organisation of the confab.

Preparations ahead of the history-making event are at their peak and Senators as well as Members of Parliament in different committees and sub-committees are burning midnight oil to honour the country through exemplary organisation.

Friday’s ordinary bureau meeting of the Senate also featured discussions on the security situation in the country with threats from insurgency.

The bureau resolved to redouble support to President Paul Biya in his relentless efforts to maintain the country’s peace, which is cherished across continents.

The meeting came on the heels of the June 2014 ordinary session of Parliament whereby the Senate marked its first anniversary of work, with 10 bills adopted by the two Houses of Parliament.

It was therefore time to take a flashback at such activities, while looking forward to the upcoming budget session of the 9th legislature.
