The management of the Yaounde-based Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, SOPECAM, was yesterday, May 27, 2013 honoured with a visit by the President of the Senate Provisional Bureau, His Royal Highness, Senator Nfon Victor E. Mukete. The distinguished Senator and his team were received by SOPECAM's Deputy General Manager, Dr Shey Peter Mabu, who stood in for the General Manager, Marie-Claire Nnana, and Managing Editor, Martin Badjang ba Nken.

Talking about his interest in publishing and news in particular, Nfon Mukete commended SOPECAM's management for its relentless efforts in informing the public on happenings in the country.

The Senator promised to use his tenure in the Upper Legislative House to press for an outlet for publishing more news in English. Nfon Mukete said failure to publish enough news in English can give detractors of Cameroon's unitary State the excuse to criticise it. The Paramount Ruler of the Bafaws in the Meme Division of South West Region, however admitted that the decision to increase the English language content of SOPECAM's publications did not entirely depend on its management. Reason why he promised to continue lobbying those responsible for appropriating the company's budget to do more to enable it effectively inform and educate all sections of the public.

Responding, Dr Mabu spoke of the company's activities, especially with regards to preparations for the forthcoming celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Reunification of Cameroon. He said efforts were continuously being made to improve the content and circulation of Cameroon Tribune and other publications.
