Some 68 underprivileged pupils of ORISA Bilingual Nursery and Primary School Esu, Menchum division on Feb. 16 benefitted school resources and clothing from Soroptimist International, SI, Litchfield, UK.

The worldwide volunteer organisation for women that works to improve the lives of girls and women in local communities across the world, was in Esu as part of their mission to reach out to the needy.

Hoph Agnes, representing SI, said they had come to assist in the education of the children whose parents are not very wealthy given the difficulties in such a rural setting.

“Some years back, I visited this institution with tourists who loved the school project and decided to assist the children,” she said. She urged the school administration, teachers and parents to continue supporting the education of their children for a better tomorrow.

Okah Emerencia, who spoke on behalf of the school, thanked the donors for their support and hailed the new found partnership between ORISA and Soroptimist International. She was equally very excited that the resources donated to the school, which consisted of writing material, books and dresses to the pupils met one of the primary needs of the institution.

Fon Kum-a- Chuo II Albert Kwazuh of Esu fondom, who welcomed the guests from Soroptimist International expressed deep appreciation for the move the organisation had taken to support education in his community.

Created in 1921 as a Non-Governmental Organisation, Soroptimist International seeks equality, peace and goodwill for women by advocating and creating access to education, and developing leadership and practical skills for a sustainable future for them.
