The Mayors of Limbe II, Buea, Ekondo Titi, Muyuka, Akwaya, Kumba II, Head Teachers of Government Primary School Mbonge, Government Primary School Aloe, including market authorities; have doffed their hats to the Special Council Support Fund For Mutual Assistance (FEICOM) for erecting magnificent structures to house their councils, schools and markets.
This appreciative gesture was contained in speeches they made in Limbe on Monday, December 1, 2014 during celebrations marking FEICOM’s «40 years at the service of local development.”
South West Branch Manager of FEICOM, Nkwetta NKwetta née Tanyi-Mbianyor Margaret recounted how FEICOM was created in 1974 and reorganized in 2000 and 2006. The celebrations, she stressed, was time to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of realizations in the South West, and carve the way forward within the framework of contributing to construct Cameroon via councils towards an emerging nation come 2035.
She revealed that FEICOM throughout its stay in the South West since 2006, has funded approximately 150 projects for FCFA 12. 958.071.393. The sum of FCFA 18.666.115.069 in terms of Additional Council Taxes as well as Taxes Subject to Equalization, have been distributed to Councils and City Councils since 2006, while revenue collection during this period stood at FCFA 3.086.904.398.
In perspective, the South West FEICOM boss revealed that the institution will finance more socio-economic infrastructural projects which are income-generating for Councils, intensify partnership with the financial services of the State to maximize its fiscal resources, strengthen ties with funding partners, amongst other initiatives.
In a brief speech, Mayor Aboko Patrick Anki of Kombo Abedimo in Ndian Division and President of the South West United Cities and Councils in Cameroon (UCCC), hailed FEICOM for greatly improving the livelihood in many municipalities in the South West Region by providing roads, bridges, primary schools, markets and council buildings. In the same vein, the Secretary General at the South West Governor’s office, Mr. Nfon Clement Ndikum, presiding at the occasion, praised FEICOM for piloting several projects in the South West which were fully realised to the satisfaction of the people.
Welcoming officials and the population that answered present, Motanga Andrew Monjimba, Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, thanked FEICOM for the positive results so far recorded and its indispensable assistance to councils nationwide and those of Limbe in particular.
One of the highlights of the celebrations was the award of prizes to three meritorious pupils in the Limbe I Municipality for their graphic designs depicting beautiful cities in Cameroon with FEICOM at the helm.
