The centre, visited by Minister Perevet, is aimed at ensuring self-employment initiatives.
The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Zacharie Perevet has disclosed that the Limbe Advanced Vocational Training Centre (AVTC) will go operational in 2016. During a working visit at Moliwe (near Limbe) on 24 November, 2015, where the Centre is situated, the Minister was impressed that the Centre is virtually set to function. Construction work in Limbe started some three years ago and thanks to Cameroon-South Korean partnership, this long awaited construction project is now a reality. With an intake of about 400 to 500 students each academic year, the centre, when operational will function with about eight different departments namely hotel management and tourism, restaurant, welding, plumbing, carpentry, dress making, refrigeration and electricity, among others.
According to the Technical Adviser in the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOP), Ngathe Philippe Kom, there shall be a Competitive Entrance Examination into the centre. Candidates with Advanced Level and below will have to write competitive entrance exams and those who will make it shall be enrolled into the centre. The training, he said, will last a year for those with Advanced Level and two years or more for those with no Ordinary Level or no certificate. The training shall involve 75 per cent practicals and 25 per cent theory. The centre has two dormitories for boys and girls respectively. Each dormitory has 12 rooms and can take 48 students with four students per room. Some of the teachers have been sent to South Korea for training.
At the end of the tour, the Minister called on all to ensure the security of the students, and to use school equipment judiciously.
