The spiritual lives of most Christians across the national territory have been revived ahead of Christmas as most churches have organised spiritual retreats and special prayer sessions.
At the saint Peter and Paul Anglophone parish at Simbock Yaounde, the parish priest, Father Giles Ngwah Forteh advised Christians to encounter the tenderness and love of God who is close to them and wants to walk with them on their journey through life.
He added that the Christmas season is very significant to Christians, as such, Christians have to seek first the things of the kingdom and attend to the needs of their souls. He emphasised the need for a better relationship with Christ without which acts like the distribution of gifts, decorations, new clothes, food and drinks becomes vanity.
Father Giles urged Christians to beware of glutton even as they celebrate this Feast of Nativity. According to him, Christians ought to always Give God the first place, work hard, use their time well, choose to do good and shun evil.
Christian of the Saint Joseph parish Mvog-Ada in Yaounde, prepared for Christmas in prayers. A great number of Christians assembled in the chapel for a prayer retreat to revamp their faith as they await the Nativity.
Part of this spiritual preparation according to Mrs Alice Abong Mundi of the Presbyterian Church is marked by acts of charity to the poor, needy, homeless, etc. At the Presbyterian Church Bastos, gifts were handed to some orphans and vulnerable children by the CWF Women of the Presbyterian Church.
To the CWF Women, eating, drinking and merry making is good but the best of them is reconciliation.
Beside spiritually preparation for the feast, some churches have been given a facelift. At the Presbyterian Church Bastos for example renovation of the altar is on-going.
The church walls of the EPC Mvog Ada, and the Saint Joseph parish in Mvog-Ada, had been refurnished with white paint signifying purity at Christmas as their parish priest puts it.
