Pupils and students from 18 selected primary schools and colleges in Yaounde have converged in separate groups at the Yaounde Gynaeco-Obstetric and Paediatric hospital for a health campaign.
Each of the group of pupils from eight primary schools learnt the basic rules of hygiene, politeness and how to manage certain illnesses like tetanus, HIV and water borne diseases.
With the aid of a video projector, the medical staff made the gave out the lecture.
Students in high schools for their part received tutorials on the menstrual cycle, premature-pregnancy and marriages, mutilation and child birth.
Red Cross officials also provided some First Aid tips to the adolescents.
The campaign which is taking place just around the national Youth Day activities was also an occasion for the Youths to showcase their talents.
Hospital officials indicated that the week-long event organised under the theme “Hygiene, reproductive health and family planning,” targeted 1,400 youth.
The campaign seeks to prepare the youth to be health-conscious and prevent avoidable diseases, which remain one of the major health challenges in Yaounde.
