Offered by the Chinese government, the school comes to strengthen China-Camerooon cooperation.

The government of Cameroon through one of its important cooperation partners, China, has ushered in a new aspect of cooperation in education - the professionalization of education. Initial studies for the first-ever Government Technical High School for Agriculture to be constructed in the country with Chinese assistance is underway in Yabassi of the Nkam Division in the Littoral Region.

The Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes, last Friday, June 1, visited the 80 hectares construction site in Yabassi, where feasibility studies is said to have started two weeks earlier.

During the assessment visit, the Minister together with the Senior Divisional Officer for Nkam, Felix Bilonougou, among others held discussions with Cameroon and Chinese experts, led by Han Jun, working on site to establish feasibility of the project. Possible challenges and problems like unsteady water and electricity supplies and inaccessibility of the site were tackled as a measure of precaution and prevention. As concerns access to the site, it was reported that the Nsake Bridge has to be rehabilitated to ease access by machinery to the area. Minister cautioned for their resolution within the shortest time limit to keep the project going and smoothly.

The Government Technical High School, it was revealed, will host students who will make use of the skills learned frlom the school to translate results of research carried out by the State into concrete reality and make such products available to the community and its environs at a cheaper cost. Teaching is said to constitute 50 per cent theoretical and 50 per cent practical. The Minister said the project is of capital importance to Cameroon as it falls in line with the professionalization of education instructed by the Head of State.
