In the early hours of today, subscribers of Cameroon Telecommunications operator (Camtel) experienced network interruptions that made connecting to the internet difficult.

Similarly, the telephone calls on the Ctphone network (that uses the CDMA technology), were also blocked. For now, only the non-roaming fixed subscribers and those with internet connection via ADSL can call or access the Web.

So far, the incumbent operator of telecommunications in Cameroon, which is preparing to launch it's GSM license, has given no indication as to the reasons for the blockage of part of its network. However, several technicians of the company confirmed that, "there were interruptions in the network”.

Camtel technical service agent noted that 'this means that an equipment has been disconnected somewhere, or an optical fiber has been cut off.

Last week, similar disturbances were also observed on the network of other mobile operators. The inconveniences were however linked to the migration to 3G.
