Suicide Attacks: National highways under check

Check points on Cameroon's highways have been fortified with more officers and control gadgets, as the National Gendarmerie continues its road safety campaign nationwide.

The National Gendarmerie is now very keen on road safety, with many more officers posted in different check points on highways across the country.

Check points are constantly modified in order to trap reckless drivers who go above prescribed speed limits.

The gendarmerie officers also watch out for vehicles with worn out tyres, those without documents or those transporting illicit products or suspects.

The road safety task force led by Major General Simon Pierre Dagafounangsou was on the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway where they called on the population to collaborate with the officers to secure the entire country and particularly the capital.

The General noted that in additional to the traditional mission to ensure that commuters respect the highway code and prevent accidents, passengers and they lodges are scanned using metal detectors and their identify controlled as part of measures to secure the country.
