Survival International, a global movement for the rights of indigenous peoples, denounced serious abuses committed against the Pygmies Baka of southeastern Cameroon, in the hands of the poaching brigades supported and financed by the worldwide Fund for nature (WWF).
The greater part of their territory being transformed into "protected areas" - including areas of trophy hunting, according to Survival International, the Baka are illegally evicted from their ancestral lands on behalf of conservation.
Instead of aiming for the powerful individuals who hide behind this organized poaching, Forest Rangers and soldiers disturb the Baka who practice a subsistence hunting, explained Mike Hurran, a manager of Survival International, in an interview with the voice of America (VOA).
