Cameroon's strife for emergence by 2035 and its fast-pace demographic growth are imposing a new vision for spatial development planning in the country's growing towns and cities.

It is against this backdrop that several town planning experts and professionals in related fields converged in Yaounde on Wednesday November 13, 2013 to launch the activities of the Network of Experts in Town Planning and Development (REUADEC).

Speaking during the occasion, REUADEC's General Coordinator, Dr. Kengne Fodouop, said the network is a scientific association of applied research created on November 21, 2012 in a context of globalisation, political democratisation and the implementation of the decentralisation and good governance policies. "REUADEC's vocation is to assist cities promote sustainable development for government alone cannot succeed," he said. Objectives, he said, include making their expertise available to public institutions and other stakeholders involved in urban planning and development.

Territorial diagnosis, impact studies, innovative town planning models and documents, amongst others, are just some of the services the network's multidisciplinary team will make available to decision makers - especially the new breed of mayors now taking over the management of municipalities around the country.

Also, the experts will offer their services in training, documentation and editing of scholarly works in town planning. The ceremony that held in the presence of representatives of government ministries, the diplomatic corps and the private sector, ended with a book exhibition.
