The remains of the victim were found on the railway early yesterday November 18.
Residents near the level railway crossing in the Obobogo neighbourhood of Yaounde woke up early yesterday, November 18, 2012 to yet another horrible scene. The remains of a young man, whose age could be estimated at between 15 and 17 years, were found lying on the rails at 7 am, about 900 metres before the level crossing.
Parts of his two feet were chopped off by the train while his head had a gaping hole. The majority of Obobogo residents who rushed from their beds to the scene were agreed the young man was not a resident of the neighbourhood. However, the absence of blood and the incomplete mutilation of the body gave way to so many speculations as to what exactly happened to the victim whose dressing gave a clue that he was one of those street children commonly seen in the centre of the city.
According to Igor T, a nearby resident, the victim must have been murdered elsewhere and his remains dumped on the rails to be crushed by the train. "When the train crushes a human being, he is mutilated severely and blood spills over several metres. This is not the case here because we see no blood," he explained to curious onlookers. While others relied on the account of an earlier passer-by who claimed he had seen the victim sitting on the rails as early as 5 am, others suggested the victim must have hung unto a moving train and accidentally slid off.
A team from the National Fire Brigade carried the remains away from the scene and normal railway traffic was re-established around 8.30 am by the National Railway Transport Company (CAMRAIL) after a brief interruption
