Reports in the polling stations spoke of an impressive participation of registered voters.
The September 30, 2013 legislative and municipal elections in Mbam & Inoubou Division of the Centre Region went on in calm and serenity and the population awaits the verdict of the polls to know their representatives at the National Assembly and councils.
At 8 a.m. Monday when polls opened, the registered voters thronged their polling stations to exercise their civic rights. At Ombessa A polling station where Cameroon Tribune first made a stopover, polling agents said there was effervescence in the morning, some timidity by midday and heightened seriousness in the afternoon. According to the President of the Hall Agence Amigo Ombessa A polling station, Jean-Calvin Mouyaka, calm reigned throughout the exercise. At 4 pm, over 200 voters of the 352 registered had voted.
At Hangar Mosque Plateau A and B in Bafia, voters were still streaming in and voting. Although there were no long queues, the presidents of the polling stations, Amang à Seyc and Mrs Ndeng respectively said they didn't have a minute off as people kept coming. The representatives of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement, Paul Mekouma and that of the National Salvation Front, Nwal Azimtchem spoke of calm and serenity. They said all who came voted in tranquility and the electoral materials were sufficient and present on time.
The same story was told at the Lycée Technique Bafia A and B polling stations where 260 and 240 people voted. According to Bidias Edongo Benjamin, observer of Horizon Femmes, all went well in the 74 polling stations in Bafia where 20,335 people registered to vote.
