Transport Companies Improve Infrastructure

The transfer to new sites will help reduce traffic in the Mvan neighbourhood.

Traffic congestion in the Mvan neighbourhood in Yaounde will soon become a thing of the past. This is due to the fact that some transport agencies are yielding to a recent decision by the Minister of Transport calling on all transport agencies along the Mvan motor park road to build adequate infrastructure for their agencies and bus terminals.

At the Mvan motor park yesterday, September 24, 2013, business was going on normally with the usual traffic jam and the porters' struggle to get passengers for their respective agencies. Some of the terminals were, as usual, jam-packed with waiting passengers often in uncomfortable waiting postures. A situation long decried by authorities of the Ministry of Transport. However, things are about to change for good.

One of the agencies that have obeyed the order is the Arc-En-Ciel Voyages. The transport company that plies the Yaounde-Ebolowa and Yaounde-Douala highways is presently constructing a new agency on a piece of land of about 3000 square metres. The construction site of the premises is already fenced and the administrative building completed. It has four offices and a waiting facility big enough to contain 100 passengers.

The Proprietor of Arc-En-Ciel transport company, Angeline Akoa told Cameroon Tribune that Arc-En-Ciel is respecting the order from the Transport minister to move to a site where they will not disturb road movement. She said the project began in January 2013. "We will start building the bus terminal, in the days ahead," she disclosed. However, she complained that some transports agencies were still operating up at the Mvan main junction thus preventing passengers from coming down to their new site. "We are obliged to continue loading in our old agency because passengers are refusing to come here," she said.

Another agency that has succumbed to the minister's decision is the Finex Transport agency. Even though no information could filter out of its officials, one could see a huge edifice under construction on a vast fenced expanse of land. A source close to the agency said the authorities are taking the necessary measures to ensure security of passengers and their properties. A source at the Ministry of Transport said transport agencies which will not obey the instructions of the Minister of Transport will face severe sanctions.
