Transport personnel invited to work harder

Robert Nkili received New Year wishes from the staff of his ministry on Thursday January 22, 2015, in Yaounde.

The Minister of Transport Robert Nkili has called on transport officials to step up measures to tighten security on the roads in order to support government in the fight against terrorist activities in the country.

He made the call on Thursday January, 22, 2015 in Yaounde while receiving New Year wishes from the staff of his ministry. The presentation of New Year wishes was an opportunity for the staff to reflect on the past year and plan for the New Year.

Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary General in the Ministry of Transport, Jean Pierre Soh, gave an exhaustive presentation of the activities of the ministry in 2014. On his part Minister Robert Nkili presented the priority projects for 2015 for the ministry.

These include the effective take off of activities of the Limbe Sea Port by the end of 2015 to put an end to the congestion at the Douala Port, contribute in construction work at the Kribi Port, the In the domain of civil aviation ensure that Maroua International Airport to begin receiving international flights by June 2015.

In the domain of road infrastructure Robert Nkili said the Ministry of Transport will work with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development so that criteria be respected on realisation of major projects such as the construction of the Yaounde-Douala Express Road and the Nsimalen Express Road. Concerning the railway infrastructure, we launched the inter city transport in 2014.

The Ministry of Transport intends to go far in 2015 in the rehabilitation of the railway lines and especially open railway lines from Edea to Kribi and Douala to Limbe and ensure progress on the railway line between Ngaoundere and Ndjamena.

Apart from that the modernisation of driving schools, transport agencies, reflection on driving licenses. He said the Ministry of Transport will do everything to reduce the rate of road accidents on highways and ensure that 2015 be a veritable year of hard work. It was also an occasion to award labour medals to some meritorious is workers and gifts to some who were due retirement.
