Transporters call-off strike action

The Association of Trade Unions of the road transport sector have agreed to call off the planned strike action.

The agreement came after discussions with the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and Representatives of the Road Transport System, CONA ROAD

The Urban and Interurban Transporters in Cameroon called off the strike action that was initially planned to coincide with this year's school reopening date, after receiving promises from government that their grievances shall be addressed

They also argued that, the present Boko Haram incursion in the far north Region and that Ebola scare are important challenges government is expected to surmount as a matter of emergency.

The meeting that held 4th September within the framework of Technical Consultative meeting at the Prime Minister's office was occasion for the transporters to express discontent.

• They blamed the 20 percent accidents registered country’s highways on government, due to poor or no maintenance of roads.

• Delayance in issuing delivers Driver’s licence amongst others.
