Since October 16, four-wheeled vehicles were no longer allowed to ply a section of the national road n ° 5, between Moumee and Bafang.
According to a decree from the prefect of Haut Nkam, Gabriel Eloi Essoa, 'the movement of vehicles is forbidden day and night on the bridge on the Moumee - Bafang-city, national road No. 5, following the collapse of a portion of the roadway at a place called PK15 + 500".
Signs of the collapse became evident early September. The prefect prescribed: "vehicles whose payload is greater than or equal to 3,5t must use the national road n ° 6 (Bafoussam - Bamileke) and the provincial 17 (Bamileke - Dschang - Melong) to Douala from Bafoussam. Other vehicles will use the deviation at Famkeu - Fombele - Fonkouakem to get to Bafang and Bangangté."
He concluded by stating that these measures are intended to ensure the safety of persons and property. Unfortunately, vehicles continue to take this route. Certainly traffic has become less dense but on Wednesday 22 October 2014, many vehicles of large caliber, going in both directions could be spotted on the road. "Deviation imposed by the prefect is not practicable," retorts N. Y., a taxi driver.
Following the recent rains, three landslides were recorded on the edges of this same road, between a place called Petit Nkam and the bridge over the river Nkam, a distance of just 1 km.
