A cargo truck carrying 700 bags of rice intended for the fighters of the Islamist sect Boko Haram lodged at Gambarou Narayanan has been impounded. The "package" which was suspected to consist of a large stock of weapons have been conveyed to Maroua for a thorough search.
The operation took place on 7th and 8th October 2014 thanks to the information from inhabitants to the police. "The cargo consists of 700 bags of rice carefully loaded into a Nigerian truck belonging to a Blama (local traditional leader) in the Fotokol.
All this was intended for Boko Haram members across the border said the source of condition of anonymity.
The source added that, "according to information available to him, the truck carried some ammunitions. The police on receiving this information ordered for the suspicious cargo truck to be conveyed to Maroua.
From other indiscretions, the "cargo rice", due to the harsh battle of Fotokol and the closure of the border would strategically served several border communities including Fotokol, Kousséri, and Mora. "The main plan was probably to hit these areas at this time where Boko Haram suffered heavy losses," said an authority in Kousseri.
Fortunately, continued the same source, "army and police vigilance has helped to check these insecurities and attempts to destabillize our territory".
