The Honorary Consulate of Tunisia organised an exhibition of books under the theme, "an open door to exchanges to tolerance among men and civilizations" at the Mam Gallery in Bonanjo yesterday April 16, 2015.
Stephan Scott, honorary consul, explained to Joseph Beti Assomo, Governor of the Littoral region that the "Books of Tunisia" exhibition is meant to promote Tunisia in the area of history, culture and literature.
The event also marked the thirtieth anniversary of the Honorary Consulate of Tunisia in Douala. The exhibition is open to the public at no cost and is expected to last three days, but could be extended to a week, if the public show more interest.
The inauguration was an opportunity to revisit the cordial relations between Cameroon and Tunisia. Links that go back to almost 2,500 years ago with the discovery of Mount Cameroon by the Carthaginians Hannon, who gave the name of 'chariot of the gods’ were revisited. The honorary consul of Tunisia also mentioned the importance his country occupies in the history of the black continent.
The Books are about 500 and explore Tunisia in all its facets: geography, attractions, architecture, the vestiges of past civilizations, the intellectual production in such areas as philosophy, religion.
There are also novels and youth works, all publications highlighting the wealth of a country which has fifty publishers. These display were described by the Governor of the Littoral region as "cultural wealth".
