Two cases of wild poliovirus have been identified by Centre Pasteur du Cameroun in the camps sheltering refugees located in the East of the country, APA learnt from competent services at the Ministry of public health.
This figure brings the number of cases recorded in the country since April to nine, with the others having appeared in the Central and Eastern regions. The new warning comes as the country launches, this Friday, a new vaccination campaign against wild poliovirus for children aged 0-5 years.
In May, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued an alert on Cameroon, Pakistan and Syria, as 'countries having the highest risk of exporting the virus to other countries' and recommended that 'all residents and visitors of long duration are vaccinated before traveling and be equipped with a proof of vaccination'.
