Two killed in clash between bandits and vigilantes in Bamendakwe

Two people have been killed at the Ntache Neighbourhood, Bamendakwe, Bamenda I Subdivision following a clash between bandits and members of the neighbourhood vigilante group on the night of Saturday December 5, breaking Sunday.

One of those killed is Louis Ngongeh, member of the anti gang group that was on patrol that night. He was stabbed several times on the chest and died shortly afterwards while four others who also sustain knife wounds from the attack are still in hospital.

One of the bandits was killed in the confrontation while the rest escaped. The corpse of the unidentified bandit has been deposited at the regional hospital mortuary.

According to a member of the anti-gang, they were on patrol late in the night when a group of unidentified men approached them with a pig, presumed to have been stolen. When they asked to be identified, a scuffled ensued, and in the process, several anti-gang members were stabbed resulting to the dead of one of theirs, while one of the bandits failed to escape with the others and was beaten to dead on the spot.

The police and gendarmes who arrive the area only the next day have opened up investigations to track down the culprits.

Its believe that the alleged bandits were using the Ntache neighbourhood road to avoid a gendarme and police mixed control point at Mile 2 Santa road, but unfortunately ran into the neighbourhood vigilante group.

One of the residents said men of the under have always been using the road to avoid the police control and that most of them are pig thieves.

Pigs are in high demand in Bamenda and other surrounding towns especially at this end of year period.
