Two new vocational centres created

A protocol agreement to this effect was signed at the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training.

Within a protocol agreement signed by the government of Cameroon, together with the French Development Agency and the Cameroon Employment Agency (GICAM), two new two sectorial institutions for vocational training have been created in Cameroon.

According to the protocol, by 2017 a vocational training institution for Industrial Maintenance and Transport/Logistics will be built in Edea 1er and an Agro-Industrial institution at Douala 3eme all in the Littoral Region.

The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Zacharie Perevet said within the protocol, three actors are involved; the private sector through GICAM, technical partner which is the French Development Cooperation and the government.

Zacharie Perevet underlined that this was a new experience to establish projects in the country judging from good results already obtained in developed countries where the private sectors had a front role in the carrying out of development projects. The Minister said the government will set out modalities to classify the diplomas of students who will graduate from the school.

Maurizio Cascioli said the French Development Agency will support the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training to renew the offer of vocational training in the country. According to him, the French Development Agency with C2D fund will assist different parties involved in making sure that the institutions are properly put in place.

The centres will offer new kind of vocational training to young Cameroonians with a specific skills based on what companies need in order to develop their activities particularly in the transport, logistic sectors and agro-industries.

The Executive Secretary of GICAM, Alain Blaise Batongue explained that while the project will be financed by the financed by the French Development Agency, the government and its partner GICAM will train and later recruit these students upon graduation.

Besides working on the judicial and administrative board of the schools, GICAM will intervene in the school curriculum. According to Mr Batongue through the convention, the country will be able to fill the loophole that existed while looking for support staff in certain professional fields such as engineering
