A U.S. Embassy Yaounde team visited Cameroon’s East Region recently to promote security, public outreach, wildlife and environmental preservation.

The four-person team include individuals from the Political Economic Section, Ambassador’s Self Help Program Coordinator, and public affairs engaged government officials, NGOs, students, environmentalists, civil society and private sector representatives.

The team also implemented a media outreach and training program for fourteen local journalists. Site visits included the Lom Pangar Dam, Deng Deng National Park protected reserve, Sanaga-Yong Chimpanzee Rescue Center, and Cameroon’s “Metalicon” company gold-mining operation.

In addition, the team visited the Anicur refugee pre-school, where U.S. Department of State Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) “Julia Taft Fund for Refugees” grants provide facilities and support for children who fled the Central African Republic due to militia violence.

Finally, they joined a Peace Corps volunteer at a community where his service promotes health and nutrition programs.

The visit received positive radio, television, and print media coverage highlighting the United States’ partnership with Cameroon to promote development.
