UIA Cameroon elects new executive

The Cameroon branch of the International Association of Lawyers, UIA, held its General Assembly in Yaounde on Saturday, April 11, 2014, during which a new executive was elected and commissioned.

The assembly was also aimed at giving a boost to the activities of UIA Cameroon Local Committee or branch, and planning for the forthcoming 59th UIA International Congress in Valencia, Spain, from October 28 to November 1, 2015.

The new team which was immediately commissioned after the poll, is led by Barrister N’gann Supermann. The rest of the members are Barrister Njankouo Issah Nasser, Secretary General and Barrister Bella Etoundi Mireille, Treasurer.

Others are Barrister Weguela Odette, Deputy Secretary General, Barristers Anne Audrey Ekongolo and Abdoul Bagui Kari, Advisers, and Public Relations and Communication Delegate, Barrister Roberto Foju.

Revamping the Cameroon UIA Local Committee, as resolved at the conference, entails stepping up sensitisation of Cameroonian lawyers on the need to join the association and organising international seminars, colloquiums and fora on the challenges of law practice in Cameroon.

The International Association of Lawyers is a world-wide body in existence for over 80 years. According to Barrister N’gann Supermann, the Cameroon branch was only founded in 2009. It now has 34 members. Its pioneer and outgoing President, Barrister Pierre Ntepe, served two terms – a term being two years renewable once.

UIA organises international seminars and congresses for members to keep them abreast of developments in their profession. According to Barrister Supermann, the quality of the training is high because it is facilitated by legal experts of international repute.

UIA also brings together over 2,000 individual members and 200 bar, federation and association members, from more than 110 countries. It is open to all the world’s lawyers, legal professionals, judges, law students and teachers.
