UNESCO: Cameroon elected into the Executive Council

The 38th UNESCO Summit in Paris ended on November 18, 2015, with active participation from Cameroon representatives.

At the end of the session, two Cameroonians were elected into major positions within the international organisation.

Professor Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle was elected member of the Executive Council of UNESCO for a four-year term and Basic Education Minister, Youssouf Hadidja Alim was raised to the position of Chairperson of the Social and Human Sciences (SHS) Commission of UNESCO.

Cameroon’s Head of State, H.E. Paul Biya and wife Chantal Biya made their respective contributions throughout the session.

In his speech, President Paul Biya called for a united fight against terrorism, a barbaric act that knows no frontier. The President was also received in audience by the UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova.

The First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya in her capacity as UNESCO’s Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion, took part in a number of deliberations during the summit.

It is should be noted that a number of Cameroonians have occupied key positions within UNESCO before these appointments.

Aurelien Eteki Mboumoua, Jean Felix Loung, Adamou Ndam Njoya, Joseph Mboui and Professor Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle, have been on the fore front of UNESCO after occupying strategic positions.

The delegation from Cameroon headed by the President comprised of the Minister of External Relations, Lejeune Mbella Mbella, the Minister of Basic Education, Youssouf Hadidja Alim and the Minister of Arts and Culture, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
