UPAC graduates first Anglophone in peace Journalism, Strategic comm

The Protestant University of Central Africa, UPAC recently graduated the first Anglophone with masters in peace Journalism and strategic communication. Tapuka Gerald is the first Anglophone to defend an MA dissertation on home soil in this new domain in communication and he researched on the topic “Peace Journalism and the press in the democratization process of Cameroon; 1990-2010”.

Peace Journalism and strategic communication is a new field in the communication world introduced by the father of peace studies, Johan Galtung, seeks to water down the effects of media like the famous RTLM that fanned the flames of the 1994 Rwanda genocide. It takes the underlying causes of conflicts and brings in the emergencies of non-violent communication. It is basically communication for peace and development.

The graduation ceremony that took place at the Djoungolo campus also saw the handing over of the end of course attestations to about 130 students including 14 graduating PhD in theology.

Present at the occasion were family members, the institution’s hierarchy headed by the Rector, Bouba Mbiba and the representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Prof Fouda, Inspector general of the same Ministry who confirmed the minister’s authorization of the opeing of the faculty of Health Sciences beginning the 2014/2015 academic year.
