The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Amanda Dory, was received by the Minister of External Relations in Yaounde.

“Robust Support” from the United States of America (U.S.A.) to Cameroon’s Defence Forces is “arriving” within the framework of previously planned and future projects between the US and Cameroon in the fight against the terrorist group, Boko Haram, in the Far North Region.

The visiting US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for African Affairs, Amanda Dory, was speaking yesterday, March 10, 2015, in Yaounde after an audience with the Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo.

She equally revealed that the US is providing diplomatic support in terms of engagement in the UN Security Council for the awaited resolution authorising the deployment of a Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTC) by the African Union against Boko Haram.

More so, Amanda Dory and her delegation, comprising defence officials from Washington D.C. and Stuttgart (Federal Republic of Germany), lauded the leadership that Cameroon has shown in terms of peacekeeping deployment, particularly under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Long-time maritime security engagement by both countries and Cameroon’s leadership in the Gulf of Guinea also featured in the discussions. “The Code of Conduct is something we have found much time collaborating on,” Amanda Dory revealed.

Earlier on, Minister Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo received the designated Ambassador of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria, H.E. Merzak Bedjaoui. The latter came to present advance copies of his letters of credence as incoming Algerian Ambassador to Cameroon.

Ambassador Merzak Bedjaoui was appointed as Algeria’s Ambassador to Cameroon last November 2014. Until then, he served as the Director of Western Europe in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He had equally served in several diplomatic missions, especially as Ambassador to Sweden from 2004.
