US Ambassador to Cameroon, Michael Stephen Hoza has confirmed that his country was providing significant intelligence support to the Central African country in the fight against Boko Haram on Friday, April 15, 2015.
Speaking to reporters after a 75-minute discussion with President Paul Biya, he said that the local army would benefit from American expertise through specific training and capacity building of soldiers in combat strategy, master and use of modern equipment as well as border security techniques.
Cameroonian soldiers are being trained in the US as part of peacekeeping operations in Central African Republic, the US diplomat added.
"The same partnership will be expressed in terms of maritime security and the fight against poaching," Hoza said.
Meanwhile, he said that his country supports Cameroon in protecting elephants of Bouba N’djida Park (North), regularly attacked by poachers from Sudan according to official sources.
Cameroon and the United States will at the same time intensify economic cooperation, he concluded.
