The Customs in the Littoral recently intercepted a hidden cargo of unauthorized plastic packaging and soft drinks.

These three dozen tonnes of fraudulent goods have been escaping checkpoints as they had crossed the Southwest border to enter the local market.

The impounded goods which were stored in customs office in Douala was presented to the press last Friday April 10, the goods were previously reported by staff as flip flops (plastic sandals) and milk. It took the critical observation of a customs officer who saw the goods pass through their territory inside four trucks after scanning during a mobile inspection routine.

Further search beyond the visual and manual inspection allowed customs officers to detect the presence of drinks and "plastic" banned by authorities in charge of environmental protection since April 2014.

The procedures relating to seizures of this type are ongoing, said Robert Tita, the industry leader who discovered the pot to the roses. The goods will be forwarded to the local department of the Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Sustainable Development for the plastics to be destroyed.
